2024 New England Puppet Intensive — Design Edition
July 12—22 (9 full workshop days) We’re pleased to bring back the Design and Construction Edition for the third year! Immerse yourself in the ultimate studio experience as we engage in a unique design laboratory with a fully stocked, puppet-making studio set against the backdrop of the beautiful Berkshires. At the core of the NEPI design philosophy is a concern for expressiveness and character. We employ a deep knowledge of puppet-taxonomy and combine it with a thirst for innovation. We encourage a sense of playfulness and experimentation in the design studio — encouraging puppeteers to work from a set design principals as well as their creative impulses. Concurrent to studio activity will be a mindful and physical practice which will give participants time for reflection, and the opportunity to explore creative impulses that may dovetail with expressive design. Daily yoga, mindful walks, and visits to the world renowned Clark Art Institute and Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) will fuel our creative energy and aid in creating a grounded posture from which to work. At NEPI you get to do it all . . . play, make, focus, connect, dream, drift, and center . . . tapping into the puppeteer within.
